GAP Year Options

More and more students are considering taking a year off at the end of Year 12 to:

  • have a break from study and school
  • earn money to pay for university or college courses
  • qualify for the government’s Independent Youth Allowance – see guidelines for April 2010 onwards.
  • travel.

There are many things to consider, especially financial implications, and a huge variety of GAP year options available.

Here is a powerpoint describing some of these options and what you need to consider. Here is a list of some of the organisations offering GAP year programs and student exchange programs.

You may like to consider an alternative for a “schoolies” experience with companies who offer experiences as volunteers.
